Guide to Ethnic Diversity in the Republic of Moldova
The Civic Initiatives Centre for National Minorities (ICPMN) presents the “Guide to Ethnic Diversity in the Republic of Moldova”, developed within the “WeAreMoldova” project, implemented with the support of Switzerland.
Written in an accessible language, the publication explores the historical formation of Moldova’s ethnic communities, their geographical distribution and the country’s main demographic trends. It includes cultural profiles of the Ukrainian, Gagauz, Roma, Russian, Bulgarian and Jewish communities, highlighting their traditions, heritage and contribution to society.
The guide also examines current challenges related to social inclusion, including language barriers, ethnic discrimination, hate speech, unequal access to education and the limited representation of minorities in decision-making processes.
A dedicated chapter explores the importance of diversity on the Republic of Moldova’s European path and the role that protecting minority rights plays in building a democratic, equitable and cohesive society.
The guide encourages readers to see ethnic diversity not as a source of division, but as an important resource for the country’s development. A cohesive society is built through respect, empathy, dialogue and the active participation of every citizen.
