Promotion of Civic Activism among Moldova’s National and Ethnic Minorities

This project supports the development of the Centre for Civic Initiatives for National Minorities – a newly established youth leadership initiative aimed at encouraging the active involvement of young people from minority communities in Moldova’s public life and democratic processes. The activities focus on the regions of Taraclia, Gagauzia, Basarabeasca, and Cahul, where diverse ethnic communities reside.

The initiative seeks to raise awareness among minority youth about their civic rights and the opportunities available for public participation, while also strengthening their communication skills and engagement with civil society. It aims to foster sustainable cooperation between minority communities and state institutions. Participants benefit from educational training, thematic workshops, and study visits to Chisinau, where they engage directly with national authorities. They also attend a dedicated Summer School on Minority Rights, which provides mentoring, practical learning, and networking opportunities. Upon completion, participants implement local civic initiatives in their own communities, supported by experts and mentors.

One of the project’s key milestones is the organization of the 2024 National Forum of Ethnic Minorities, a major event that will bring together civic activists, media representatives, public officials, and leaders of ethnic communities from across the country. Through this comprehensive approach, the project promotes social cohesion, democratic values, and the effective integration of minorities into Moldova’s public and civic life.
