MinorityDialogue: Demand a Voice, Claim Representation!
The Republic of Moldova, with its remarkable ethnocultural diversity, continues to face significant underrepresentation of national, ethnic, and linguistic minorities in Parliament.
This lack of representation affects decision-making processes and limits the reflection of the real interests of these communities in public policies. In the context of the country’s European integration path, it is essential that the voice of every citizen is heard and equally included.
To address this challenge, the Civic Initiatives Center for National Minorities (ICPMN), with support from the Embassy of the Czech Republic and in partnership with the Agency for Interethnic Relations, has launched the project “Increasing the level of political and civic participation among ethnic, national, and linguistic minorities in the Republic of Moldova.” One of the project’s main initiatives is the creation of the #MinorityDialogue platform, a permanent consultation framework with minority leaders and ethnocultural organizations.
The first roundtable of the project took place on July 2, 2025, at the ARI headquarters in Chișinău, bringing together leaders of ethnic communities, civic activists, and representatives of central authorities. Participants discussed obstacles to the political participation of minorities and formulated proposals for better representation in the future legislature.
These discussions will contribute to the development of a “Declaration of National Minorities,” which will include concrete demands addressed to political parties and the Government.
In the coming weeks, the project will continue with two regional roundtables, one in the south and one in the north of the country, to collect opinions from the territory and expand the dialogue.
The ultimate goal is to build a sustainable mechanism for the political integration of minorities in decision-making processes, fully aligned with European values of democracy, equality, and inclusion.
