ICPMN invests in tomorrow's leaders
On June 18, 2025, the Comrat City Hall hosted a new session of the “Gagauzia People’s Assembly Simulator” - a civic education project implemented by the Center for Civic Initiatives for National Minorities (ICPMN). The initiative aims to strengthen democratic values, encourage critical thinking, and prepare young people in Gagauzia to take part in the region’s public life.
The event opened with welcoming speeches from Mihai Peicov, Executive Director of ICPMN, and Serghei Anastasov, Mayor of Comrat. Both emphasized the strategic role of youth in shaping the future of the region and the importance of understanding how public administration and regional legislative bodies function.
A key component of the session was a roundtable discussion involving the mayor, deputy mayor, and legal experts of Comrat City Hall. The central topic was the institutional relationship between local authorities and the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia – the autonomous legislative body of the region. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions, engage with real examples, and learn about transparency, policy-making, and cooperation between public structures.
The “People’s Assembly Simulator” promotes critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills through simulations, workshops, and mentoring. It offers young people tools to become active, informed citizens in their communities.
This session, supported by the local administration, provided a valuable real-world learning environment. The “Simulator” is not just an educational tool – it’s a platform for building trust, competence, and vision among the next generation of leaders in Gagauzia.
